Lineage

The Vinyāsa Krama Mandiram system draws inspiration from the Ashtanga Vinyasa tradition and the teachings of Tirumalai Krishnamacharya, widely regarded as the “father of modern yoga.” Krishnamacharya taught for over seven decades until his passing in 1989. His influence shaped much of contemporary yoga, and a number of his direct students — including BNS Iyengar — continue to teach in India today.
As perhaps the most influential yoga teacher of the 20th century, Krishnamacharya's legacy endures through the work of his students and their students. His teachings emphasised discipline, breath, and adaptation — with a strong focus on tailoring the practice to the unique needs of the individual. This student-centred approach, especially prominent in his later years in Chennai, forms the philosophical and practical foundation of the Vinyāsa Krama Mandiram method.
For many, an essential part of seeking an authentic teacher involves understanding their lineage — the direct transmission of teachings from teacher to student. Those studying within the VK system can trace this lineage through their teacher, back to Krishnamacharya himself, ensuring the continuation of a living, evolving tradition rooted in deep respect and experience.
