Self Practice
The way we practise yoga today often looks quite different from how it was traditionally taught. In a traditional setting, a student would receive a personalised practice from their teacher and repeat it independently, returning regularly for guidance and refinement.
As the popularity of yoga grew — especially within the Ashtanga tradition — Pattabhi Jois developed what became known as Mysore-style: a group self-practice where students follow the sequence at their own pace, guided by their own breath, while receiving individual support from the teacher.
This model of self-practice lies at the heart of the Vinyāsa Krama approach. It empowers the student to take ownership of their practice and evolve it over time with support — not dependency.
